Sports Massage at PACE Therapies in Guildford

Our aim through massage is to improve your day to day or sporting function – firm enough to help ease muscular aches, but not so hard that you’re gritting your teeth and feeling pain!

By using a combination of techniques, we endeavour to get to the ‘root’ of the issue and help to decrease pain, increase mobility, circulation, improve lymphatic drainage and encourage muscle tissue healing.  Most clients report feeling relaxed, soothed, tension released, knots eased and muscles feeling lighter, more flexible and ready to race!

Whether you have a massage booked at our clinic, or in your home or workplace, we will always provide all the necessary kit; table and towels – all you need to do is wear comfortable clothing – shorts or suitable underwear if we are working on your legs- and have a quiet space for your treatment.

Sports Massage FAQ

Sports massage isn't exclusive to athletes. Whether you're an avid runner, a gym enthusiast, or someone dealing with muscle discomfort from daily activities, sports massage can be beneficial. It's also effective for those recovering from muscle injuries or seeking relief from conditions like chronic muscle pain or stiffness.
The frequency of sports massages depends on your activity level and needs. For active individuals engaged in rigorous training, weekly or bi-weekly sessions may be beneficial. If you're seeking sports massage for general wellbeing or muscle tension relief, a monthly session could be sufficient. We will advise how many sessions you should have.
While both aim to promote healing and enhance physical function, their approaches vary. Sports massage focuses primarily on soft tissue manipulation to relieve muscle tension and improve circulation, which is beneficial for both injury prevention and recovery. Physiotherapy, on the other hand, encompasses a broader spectrum, including joint mobilisation, exercise prescription, and education about body mechanics. It's often used for managing chronic conditions, rehabilitation after surgery, or improving movement restrictions.

What is a Sports Massage

Our aim is to provide ‘functional’ massage – firm enough to help ease muscular aches, but not so hard that you’re gritting your teeth and feeling pain! By using a combination of techniques, we endeavour to get to the ‘root’ of the issue and help to increase circulation, improve lymphatic drainage and encourage muscle tissue healing. Most clients report feeling relaxed, soothed, tension released, knots eased and muscles feeling lighter, more flexible and ready to race!

What are the benifits of Sports Massage

Sports massage improves flexibility, mobility and performance

Sports massage helps increase blood flow and circulation, improving flexibility, mobility and performance. It also reduces muscle pain and soreness that can inhibit athletes from performing at their best. Sports massage can also help reduce stress levels, encouraging a sense of well-being that can enhance performance. Finally, it improves the body's ability to absorb nutrients needed for energy production, helping athletes to perform at their peak level.

Reduces Muscle Soreness & Tension

A sports massage will help reduce your muscle soreness and tension by increasing blood flow and circulation. This helps to relieve pain and reduce the risk of injury in the future.

Types of Sports Massage

Pre Event Massage

Pre-event massage helps your body get ready for the physical demands of the competition by boosting circulation, alleviating tension in your muscles, and enhancing joint mobility.

Pre-event massage aims to enhance athletic performance and reduce the risk of injury by improving the athlete's overall physical readiness for the event.

Post Event Massage

A sports massage given following a sporting event or competition is referred to as a post-event sports massage or a post-competition massage.

The goal of post-event massage is to speed healing and help the athlete's body go back to how it was before the competition. Increased circulation, better joint mobility, and a reduction in muscular tightness and stiffness are all benefits of this massage.

Maintenance Massage

Maintenance sports massage, also known as regular sports massage, is a type of therapeutic massage performed regularly to help maintain an athlete's physical performance and prevent injury.

Maintenance sports massage aims to support the athlete's ongoing physical activity and performance by reducing muscle tension, improving circulation, and increasing flexibility.
