Also known as ‘Dry Needling’, this form of Acupuncture differs from Traditional Chinese Medicine, in that the practitioner does not use Acupressure points or energy meridians to treat the client, the needles are used directly into the muscle tissue at trigger points (‘knots’ or areas of pain within the muscle belly) to stimulate a circulatory response and encourage blood flow to the area to aid healing.
Medical Acupuncture is quick, most sessions take 5-15 minutes of ‘needle time’ and can help pain relief, muscular spasms, tired and achy limbs from training, recovery from injury and a variety of other issues.
We use single use sterile needles, most people report barely even feel them! The area recovers quickly and you can train or race the same day, without the ‘bruised’ feeling sometimes associated with a Sports Massage. ~We usually combine Medical Acupuncture with some light massage and stretching.
If you would like to try Medical Acupuncture, please email Info@PACETherapies.co.uk for more information or to make an appointment. Both Sarah and Sam are qualified in Medical Acupuncture and Sarah is qualified as an Advanced Practitioner and can also carry out Electro-Acupuncture. Electro-Acupuncture involves a low-frequency current being passed through the needles to stimulate the muscle tissue. This helps ease pain especially with chronic issues – long term back pain, stiff and sore joints etc, stimulating circulation and aiding healing.
